Up for auction is a super rare vintage one gallon glass Hyde Park "Hoppy's Favorite" milk bottle with wire bail. It measures approximately 10 3/4" tall x 6" wide and features an image of Hopalong Cassidy on each side with the name W M Boyd underneath. The bottom is marked Duraglas with an "I" in a circle surrounded by a 9 on the left, a 4 on the right and 7 on the bottom. There is no cap or stopper but the original wire bail is still attached. It is rusty but complete. The glass is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks, is very clear but does have a few scratches. The yellow decals on each side have slight wear but are complete and nice. The bottle could use a light cleaning but overall is in great condition. This is a really hard bottle to find in this size and would make a great addition to a collection. Please look at pictures closely for details and condition. Up for bid is a nice quart milk bottle from Lancaster, Ohio. The front of the bottle says, "McClellan's Home Dairy/ Lancaster, Ohio." The reverse side of the bottle features an image of Hopalong (Hoppy) Cassidy on horse with a lasso. On the inside of the lasso it says, "Hoppy's Favorite." Folks, there's a lot of reproduction Hopalong Cassidy milk bottles out there but I guarantee this one to be 100% authentic. It is listed in the newest edition of the Ohio Milk Bottle book. Dairy Farm Dairy Farms Dairy Farm dairy farm that once was operated and located in historic Syracuse NY New York in Onondaga Co. County NY. Pyro is different on all four sides. Front has a picture of the Dairylea trademark Family Picnic logo and says, "Dairylea". Back has a picture of Miss Dairylea and says, "Dairylea". One side has a picture of William Boyd on his horse "Topper" and says, "Dairylea Milk Hoppy's Favorite Milk Wm. Boyd". The other side a picture of Hoppy standing and says, "Dairylea Milk Hoppy's Favorite". Pyro is complete and bright. This authentic milk bottle is from 1957 and is in excellent condition with no cracks, dings, chips, or casewear. A nice addition for the collector of Syracuse NY New York or Onondaga Co. County NY milk bottles. I have been told that this is a hard to find milk bottle from Syracuse NY. I know of 7 or 8 variations of the Dairylea Hoppy quart milk bottle. This variation is commonly known as the "Residential Bottle" without the red star and was a home delivery bottle. A nice addition for the collector of William Boyd and Hoppy Hopalong Cassidy items. William Lawrence Boyd (June 5, 1895 – September 12, 1972) was an American film actor known for portraying Hoppy Along Cassidy Actor William Boyd portrayed Hopalong Cassidy, the silver-haired paragon of Western virtue, in 92 motion picture and television films. As the ageless Hoppy, Boyd rode his horse, Topper, across the range for a quarter of a century. On the screen, he never smoked, drank, swore or made love to women. He always tried to capture rustlers rather than shoot them and he always let the villain draw first when a showdown was inevitable. Boyd made his last Hoppy film in 1953, then faded into retirement, having made millions of dollars from television and advertising rights. Boyd came to Hollywood in 1915. His first job was as a chauffeur. After several bit parts, he caught the attention of Cecil B. DeMille who liked his wavy white hair and his snappy clothes. DeMille put him under a $30-a-week contract. Appearing in such films as "The Volga Boatman" and "King of Kings," Boyd became something of a romantic hero in the 1920s. In 1931, a case of mistaken identity plunged Boyd's career into darkness. A Broadway actor, also named William Boyd, was arrested at a drinking and gambling party. Newspapers the next day published the Hollywood Boyd's picture in error. Apologies were also published, but his career seemed ended. He was a has-been in 1935 when a Paramount producer offered him a part as Hopalong Cassidy in a series of cowboy films based on the novels of Clarence Mulford. In Mulford's works, Hoppy was an ornery cuss who spit tobacco juice, cursed, drank whiskey and walked with a limp. Boyd talked the producer into altering Hoppy's character 180 degrees. The Hopalong movies enjoyed box office success. With television, Hoppy became a household word. His sudden resurgence of popularity spawned a Hoppy radio show and a comic strip. In the years before his death he refused to talk to the press. "I'm not the man people remember as Hopalong Cassidy," he told one prospective interviewer.
