RARE 1934 J. E. Trimer Hartslog Valley Huntingdon PA Quart Milk Bottle Embossed
SOLD $199.00 Sold: Dec 10, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
RARE 1934 J. E. TRIMER HARTSLOGVALLEY QUART MILK BOTTLEHUNTINGDON PENNSYLVANIA Available for purchase is a VERY RARE milk bottle from the J. E. Trimer Hartslog Valley Dairy in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, circa 1934. The front side has a round slug plate with text inside that reads "J. E. TRIMER / HARTSLOG VALLEY MILK / HUNTINGDON, PA." Above the slug plate it's embossed "ONE QUART LIQUID". The front heel is marked "REGISTERED" above "BCCCO 48". The underside of the base is marked with the Owens-Illinois Glass Company logo with a date code of "4" with no dot (1934) and the plant code "17" (Clarion, PA). It also has a large letter "T", a sorters code representing the first letter of the Trimer dairy (so that bottles returned to the dairy could be easily sorted from those of other dairies). The bottle stands about 9 1/2" tall and measures 3 3/4" wide. The neck has a series of raised knobs (some refer to them as "hobnails"). I'm not sure what their function was (if any), perhaps to grip the neck better. I purchased this milk bottle at a recent estate sale. Milk bottles from this dairy appear to be very scarce. I haven't been able to locate much information about this dairy, other than it was named after the settlement of Hartslog in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. Originally called "Hart's Log", it was a stop along Frankstown Path, a route used by early travelers in this region. The place was first named after a hollow log at the settlement, which the trader John Hart used between 1744 and 1755 as a feeding trough for his pack of horses. The town has since been renamed to Alexandria but a historical marker still exists to designate the site.Condition of this collectible milk bottle is VERY GOOD with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. It does have some case wear and a few scratches. The glass is mostly clear but there is some cloudiness, primarily under the slug plate. This scarce milk bottle shows its age but still looks great and displays well. It would make a fine addition to any milk bottle collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. I'm confident you'll be very pleased with this purchase! If collect vintage milk bottles, especially from small town dairies in Pennsylvania, don't miss your opportunity to purchase this offering. I've only seen of few other examples of this bottle pictured online. My Buy It Now price of only $199 is a bargain for this scarce bottle.
